Under the label AiR = Artist in Residence, the two professors from the Institute of Art and Art Theory, Prof. Dr. Heidi Helmhold and Prof. Silke Leverkühne, installed a platform for spatial art in the public space of the Faculty of Human Sciences from 2013 to 2015.
In 2013, Seebach (Berlin) & Christiane Stegat (Cologne) realised a site-specific and participatory work with students on the first floor of the faculty under the joint label MUSTERPLATTENSTUDIO. This artistic wall work entitled Raum_Wand_Ornament brought students and everyday users of the space into conversation with the historical spatial concept of the faculty.
In 2014, freelance Cologne-based artist Ingrid Roscheck (now an artistic collaborator at the Institute for Art and Art Theory) created a spatial work in the faculty foyer. Entitled Arbeitsplatz Fakultät 2014/2015 (Workplace Faculty 2014/2015), this work alludes to the university as a place of knowledge and teaching, while also referring to the baroque cabinets of curiosities that sought to question and explore the things of this world.
In the summer of 2015, Düsseldorf artist Birgit Huebner also created the window installation Worte (Words) in the foyer. In this participatory work, the artist collected words from students and applied them to the window front as ‘windows’ into personal views of the place of education. The installation remained as a permanent installation on the windows of the foyer.
